Kwanele App

One of our major projects is launching the Kwanele App, an innovative app gives women and children an easy-to-use tool to report and successfully prosecute crimes involving Gender Based Violence.

In emergency situations, the Kwanele app provides victims with fast access to help, and to a community to stand with them. The app also provides a toolbox of resources for use in court cases to help ensure successful conviction rates against perpetrators.

The App is made up of the following functionalities:

• Panic button

• The vault – storing audio, video, notes and files

This easy-to-use app gives women a way to get help fast and guides them through the process of laying a charge, collecting admissible evidence, and getting a conviction.

I learned a lot during the design process, especially the user-friendly principle which I also learned from the course Programming and Data for Policymakers. We will collect feedbacks from users and improve the functionalities regularly. The app should not only be easy to use, but also consider the special needs of our users. For example, we need to have an emergency exit button and a disguised design for the face of the app like pretending to be a shopping app, which cannot be recognized and detected. This will help the users to use it more safely even when the perpetrators are around.
