Legal Consultation

ruijialiu2020

Legal support is the major service Kwanele provides. Many victims and survivors of gender-based violence who lack the financial means to attain legal resources reach out to us to find pro bono lawyers to assist them in achieving expedited relief.

Having a lawyer represent me in court would mean the world to me. This battle is not only in court but it follows me everywhere I go, every single day I continue to seek justice. Having a lawyer would mean that I get to fully focus solely on my mental and emotional recovery as every time I have to return to court my journey of healing is backtracked. Having a lawyer would amplify my voice and mean that I would be taken a lot more seriously and so will my appeal.

This is one of the stories from our clients. I received emails from different clients who seek for legal help like applying for protection order, finding legal representation or consultation and advocacy. Many clients reaching to us are suffering from serious mental harm including depression, anxiety and even bipolar disorder, which can be read between the lines. I worked with the legal team, read all their emails and stories, and interviewed them to summarize the important legal facts and related laws.

Kwanele has allowed to me to use my existing legal knowledge and expand thereupon to provide pro bono legal assistance alongside a wonderful legal team of attorneys and advocates and has fulfilled my passion to help persons who are suffering from GBV. I feel like I am using my voice to speak out against injustices against women, men and children and fight for their rights, health and safety.
